Iran twice fell behind on home soil in the AFC World Cup qualifying clash, only for Mehdi Taremi to rescue them with two goals. The point keeps Iran top of Group A and three points above Tuesday's visitors, who would have secured their spot at the summer competition with a win.

With two games left to play, Iran are on track to finish as group winners, but the midweek result was enough to secure a place in the top two at least, ensuring they will make a fourth consecutive World Cup appearance.
